61. The Gift

This piece was originally meant to be something different, however, the tree had a large hollow pocket which prevented the carving of the original subject. As the carving developed the customer, Mrs. Arlene Chatterton, suggested a number of good ideas to develop the piece into a more interesting composition. In fact, the figures were really her idea. The piece you see here is the result of that inspired input on the part of the client, for which I am pleased, as I think the end result was quite successful.
